Water Supply Information

This Village of Tarrytown obtains water from the New York City water supply system sourced primarily from the Catskill and Delaware watershed east of the Hudson River and in emergencies from the Croton watershed in Putnam and Westchester counties. The total amount of water supplied to the Village distribution system in 2023 was approximately 494,895,000 gallons from the NYC Water Source. The daily average amount of water treated and pumped into the distribution system was 1.356 million gallons. Our estimated highest single day demand in 2023 was 1.997 million gallons.

Water Rates 

Water rates are set based on the cost of supply and the cost of management and administration of the water distribution system. The Village Water Department Budget is $6,573,243, and the cost of water purchased from New York City is $2,224.32 per million gallons. Excess water charge is $3,641.43 per million gallons for greater than 125.64 gallons per capita per day of use.

The Tarrytown Water Department bills residential customers four times a year and the average bill per billing period is $202.55 for a total of $810.21 per year. The average single-family household in the Tarrytown Water Department uses approximately 8,935 cubic feet of water per year. Commercial customers are billed on a monthly basis.
