Water Department

The Village of Tarrytown operates and maintains its own water system including purification, filtration, transmission and distribution. Our water system serves approximately 12,000 people through approximately 2,300 service connections.

The Water Department is overseen by the Department of Public Works with support from the Treasurer's Department to handle billing and payments, and the Village Engineering Department to assist with major capital and infrastructure improvement projects.

  • Do you have a question about water quality, water system issues or needed repairs? Please call the Department of Public Works at (914) 631-0356 during operating hours of 7:30am - 3:30pm. For concerns after operating hours, please contact the Tarrytown Police Department's non-emergency line at 914-631-5544.

If you are experiencing brown water, please first try to run cold water for approximately 10 minutes to see if it clears. Brown water can be caused by a disruption in the system if a nearby repair is being made on a water main or a hydrant is being flushed. If the water is still not clear after you run cold water through the system, then please contact the Department of Public Works at (914) 631-0356 during operating hours of 7:30am - 3:30pm. To report brown water or water main breaks after operating hours, please contact the Tarrytown Police Department's non-emergency line at 914-631-5544.

  • Do you have a question about water billing or payments? Please call the water billing office at (914) 631-7875.
