Local Laws of Note

Part II, General Legislation, details the ordinances homeowners should become familiar with since some require permits and actions that need to be taken. However, there is a TON of info there... so to highlight just a few, please see below:

Chapter 205 - 3, Seasonal ban on gas-powered leaf & garden blowers

Owners of Single family to three-family homes are exempt from the ban, however larger residential complexes (4 units+) and commercial properties are not exempt.

Chapter 259, Streets and Sidewalks (specifically: Section 37-39 deals with the removal of snow and ice).

If a sidewalk abuts your home, the owner or occupant are responsible for clearing any contiguous sidewalks, and in the case of multifamily homes, all driveways and access/exit roads within 18 hours after the end of such snowfall. Note that retail must remove snow between 7am-9pm. Ice must be removed within two hours, however there are exceptions.

Chapter 291, Vehicles & Traffic

We do not expect you to completely familiarize yourself with the local traffic codes (i.e. no parking restrictions, stop signs, etc.). We merely point out this section of the code, so you know that if you have a question about traffic signage, parking restrictions, etc., you know to contact the Village of Tarrytown.

Chapter 76, Alarm Systems

This chapter notes that anyone having an alarm device must apply to the Village Clerk for an alarm user permit.

Chapter 281, Trees

The Village of Tarrytown has been a Tree City USA for decades. We really care about trees here in the Village. You need a permit for Tree Removal. Chapter 281 of the Village Code establishes minimum standards for tree protection.  New residents should familiarize themselves with this section of the Village Code before trimming trees or shrubs and before considering any tree removal. Section 10 gives information on trimming of trees and shrubs. Section 11 gives information on permits for tree removal. Any questions on tree removal? Please call 631-0356 or email dpw@tarrytowngov.com

Chapter 205, Landscaping

This chapter notes that landscapers working in the Village must be licensed by the Village of Tarrytown.

Chapter 205, Noise

The Village of Tarrytown recognizes that excessive noise is detrimental to the public peace, health, safety and welfare of its residents. Problems concerning the disturbance of the peace and quiet by noise from various activities are best solved by thoughtful discussions and cooperative agreements between affected parties. However, to resolve remaining problems of noise which is disturbing to others, it is the purpose of this chapter to establish standards for noise in the Village of Tarrytown.
