Water Meter Replacement Project
The Village of Tarrytown is in the process of completing a comprehensive replacement of residential and commercial water meters throughout the Village. The project began in Spring 2023 and is wrapping in Summer 2024. Last replaced in 2006, the Village water system meters reached the end of their useful life, and because they were failing, many water accounts had to rely on estimated water usage for billing.
The Village contracted with Ferguson Waterworks to implement the replacement of the meters, and Saks Metering conducted the installation. Upgrading our water meters brings several advantages. In addition to accurate measurement of water usage, the new meters give access to an online portal that allows water system customers to track their water usage on a regular basis. This can help customers identify leaks and issues in their system when water usage increases unexpectedly. We anticipate the project will be ongoing for the remainder of 2023.
The Village held two in person information sessions about the project that were also available on Zoom on April 13, 2023 and May 11, 2023. The video of the second info session can be found here:

Water Billing
- Your bill might look different after your water meter is replaced for a few possible reasons:
- The new water meters are more accurate, and provide detailed measurement of usage down to the cubic foot rather than a rounded figure.
- If your previous water meter had failed, and the Village had to rely on estimated water usage, the new meter will be reading your actual usage which may be lower or higher than the estimates.
- For those with compounded meters who used to receive two different bills, you will now be receiving a single bill reflecting higher usage as the bills are now combined.
- The Tarrytown Water Department in the Treasurer's Office can be reached at (914) 631-7875.
Replacing Water Meters
After the water meter replacement project concludes in Summer 2024, if you require a new meter because your meter is broken or for new construction, please contact the Water Department: (914) 631-0356..A new meter will likely require you to complete a water tap application which can be found on the Village website.
