Tarrytown News 12.18.2020 - Fire, Snow Emergency, Justice Court Update, COVID Vaccine, Cluster Strategy Changes and more...

As if it wasn't difficult enough... (FIRE)

Our DPW crews have been working hard all week. Earlier this week it was a water main break on Broadway that caused crews to work until past 1am. Then it was a marathon event Wednesday evening into Thursday Afternoon with snow clearing. Today (12.18) it was a fire in one of our trucks! They just can't catch a break. You'll see them continue working hard throughout the weekend.

You may have noticed the commotion at Highland & Gunpowder this afternoon. Luckily everyone was ok. Big thanks to Tarrytown Fire for showing up quickly to the scene to assist with the fire; and to TPD for traffic assistance. Unfortunately, we think truck H2 is a goner. Some pictures are included below.

Snow Emergency

The Mayor Decleared a Snow Emergency on Wednesday at 4PM. The snow emergency is still in effect and will likely remain until at least Monday. By law, certain roads cannot be parked on during an active snow emergency (click here for a full list of streets). If you need an off-street parking space during the storm, we are allowing cars to park in Parking Lot A next to Village Hall and Lot D (near the Recreation Center) at no charge until after the snow stops and roads have been plowed. Any resident may park in these lots to help facilitate street plowing.

There were numerous counts of failure to adhere to the snow emergency. This has hampered snow response on the those streets listed in the above link. Failure to move your car may result in ticket and/or tow. Our DPW crews are out doing hard work to keep the roads clear and safe. Please help us to do so in a timely manner by parking in the designated areas if you do not have a driveway.

Alternate side parking is suspended until 12:01AM Monday, December 21st.

Village Justice Court Update

All cases (including parking and vehicle and traffic) are being held virtually at this time by order of the NYS Office of Court Administration. If you have an appearance ticket regarding Vehicles and Traffic, or  Parking, please contact the Village Court either by telephone or by mail prior to appearance date.  Village Court Office Telephone number: 914-631-5215 or mail to: Village of Tarrytown Court Office, One Depot Plaza, Tarrytown, NY  10591. Please call first to determine if your case will be held virtually or if we will move back to in person court.

COVID Vaccine On The Way…

It seems there may be a light at the end of this long, emotionally draining, difficult, (insert additional adjectives here) tunnel. Vaccines are beginning to be authorized on an Emergency Use Basis by the Federal Government. This is great news, but the vaccine is not here on a community wide basis at this point. Mask wearing, social distancing, and other public health precautions will still likely be in play for many months ahead. This is still a marathon, we just might be on mile 16 or 17 at this point…

New York State has a portal for all things' vaccine related. There is too much information to post here. Please visit https://covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov/ to learn more.

Cluster Initiative Changes

Portions of the Village of Tarrytown are still listed as a yellow zone. For several weeks none of the zones State wide changed. On December 10, Governor Cuomo announced new metrics by which micro-cluster focus zones will be determined to help control COVID-19 spread and protect hospital capacity.

Red Zone: A red zone will be implemented when a region, after the cancellation of elective procedures and a 50 percent increase in hospital capacity, is 21 days away from reaching 90 percent hospital capacity on the current 7-day growth rate.

Orange Zone: A geographic area will be eligible to an Orange Zone if it has a 4 percent positivity rate (7-day average) over the last 10 days and it is located in a region that has reached 85 percent hospital capacity. Alternatively, a geographic area may also become an Orange Zone if the State Department of Health determines the region’s rate of hospital admissions is unacceptably high and a zone designation is appropriate to control the rate of growth.

Yellow Zone: A geographic area will be eligible to enter a Yellow Zone if it has a 3 percent positivity rate (7-day average) over the past 10 days and is in the top 10 percent in the state for hospital admissions per capita over the past week and is experiencing week-over-week growth in daily admissions.

If we hear any changes for the Village of Tarrytown, we will post it here on Tarrytowngov.com
