Tarrytown News 11.20.2020 - Porch Pirates, Leaf Clean-Up, Food Scrapping and More!

Porch Pirates

With the holiday season approaching, the Tarrytown Police Department would like to take this opportunity to remind our residents that package theft becomes increasingly common this time of year.  Tarrytown is not immune to “Porch Pirates”, thieves who steal packages from unsuspecting homeowners’ porches. Need tips on how to skirt porch pirates? One way you can help is by volunteering to register for the Village’s secure cam program so we know where to investigate in the case of a pirate!

LEAF CLEAN-UP

It’s raining leaves, everywhere! Back-breaking labor on the weekends, loud leaf blowers at every other property, it’s just way of life…. Or is it? Is there another way?

Yes there is! You can Love ‘Em and Leave ‘Em! The concept of love ‘em and leave ‘em is to use leaves as free fertilizer. Mulch mow your leaves (and grass), leave your leaves in flower beds. You'll have a greener lawn because as leaf mulch breaks down it naturally fertilizes the soil. You'll have a healthier lawn because leaf mulch improves soil structure and soil biology. It also helps improve drainage and water retention. "Free" mulch protects and enhances your landscape beds. Grass-cycling provides similar benefits for lawn fertilization and soil health. You can learn more at http://www.leleny.org/

If you’re not interested in leaving them in place, you can read about the typical fall leaf pick-up schedule here: https://www.tarrytowngov.com/home/news/2020-fall-leaf-collection-schedule

Food Scrap Recycling

Did you know that you can recycle your food scraps? The Village of Tarrytown has offered Food Scrap Recycling to Village Residents for some time now. Your food scraps can be recycled and turned into quality compost. You can purchase a food scrap kit (or make your own). Food scraps are dropped off on Green Street (near train station). Learn more about the program today!

Police Survey

The Village is in the midst of working through its process in accordance with Governor Cuomo's executive order 203 - NYS Police Reform & Reinvention Collaborative. To assist our work and as a part developing the Village's plan to continue to improve the Tarrytown Police Department, the Village is seeking input from its residents in various ways. As such, we are launching Tarrytown’s first ever Police "Community Survey".
