Notice: Water Main Replacement Project

Village news and updates

The Village of Tarrytown has contracted with Paladino Concrete Creations Corp. to replace 4,950 linear feet of water main that is beyond its useful life on Altamont Avenue, Rosehill Avenue, Grove Street, Woodland Avenue, and Hillside Place. Temporary bypass water mains will be installed and placed on-grade along Hillside Place and Woodland Avenue.

If you live on Hillside Place and Woodland Avenue (or are affected by the project), you should expect several temporary impacts while the existing aging water mains are being replaced.

Here's a summary:

  • Project start: Monday, July 20, 2026
  • Work hours: Monday–Friday, approximately 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
  • Overall project: About 8 months across several streets.
  • Hillside Place segment: Expected to last about 4 weeks.

What to expect:

  • Road closure: Hillside Place will be closed to vehicle traffic during work hours.
  • Parking: You must move any parked vehicles off the street each morning before work begins.
    • If you or your tenants need daytime parking, you can request temporary parking passes for McKeel Avenue Parking Lot #5 by contacting the Village Engineering Department.
  • Water interruptions: There will be occasional temporary water shutoffs when the new main is connected to the existing system.  You will receive a separate notice for each individual interruption
  • Temporary water lines: Above-ground bypass water mains will be installed along Hillside Place and Woodland Avenue during construction.

Water quality:

You may notice:

  • Temporary brown or discolored water after construction activities.
  • The water is safe to drink, but it may stain laundry.
  • If your water is discolored:
    • Run your faucets for 10–15 minutes, or until the water runs clear.
    • Wait to do laundry until the water clears.

Benefits after completion

  • The new water main is intended to improve:
  • Water quality Fire protection (fire flow)
  • Reliability of the water system.
