Water Meter Replacement Project

Water Meter Image INFORMACIÓN EN ESPAÑOL

The Village of Tarrytown is embarking on a comprehensive replacement of residential and commercial water meters throughout the Village in Spring 2023. Last replaced in 2006, the Village water system meters are past the end of their useful life, and are failing, resulting in a reliance on estimated water usage for billing. This problem will only continue to worsen, and impedes our ability to accurately bill our water system customers.

The Village has contracted with Ferguson Waterworks to implement the replacement of the meters, and Saks Metering will be conducting the installation. Upgrading our water meters brings several advantages. In addition to accurate measurement of water usage, the new meters will give access to an online portal that allows water system customers to track their water usage on a regular basis. This can help customers identify leaks and issues in their system when water usage increases unexpectedly.  We anticipate the project will be ongoing for the remainder of 2023.

The Village held two in person information sessions about the project that were also available on Zoom on April 13 and May 11. The video of the second info session can be found here:

Saks Metering will be reaching out to help you schedule an appointment two to three weeks before your installation is scheduled to occur.  All contractors working on this project and Village staff will be required to show photo identification.

Water Billing

  • Your bill might look different after your water meter is replaced for a few possible reasons:
  1. The new water meters are more accurate, and provide detailed measurement of usage down to the cubic foot rather than a rounded figure.
  2. If your previous water meter had failed, and the Village had to rely on estimated water usage, the new meter will be reading your actual usage which may be lower or higher than the estimates.
  3. For those with compounded meters who used to receive two different bills, you will now be receiving a single bill reflecting higher usage as the bills are now combined.
  • The Tarrytown Water Department in the Treasurer's Office can be reached at (914) 631-7875.
