TVAC update to the Village Board on February 7, 2022

Jill Swanson, Captain of the Tarrytown Volunteer Ambulance Corps (TVAC) recently provided a report and update to their Village on their activities and accomplishments in 2021.

Last year, TVAC volunteer drivers, EMTs, and other crew members committed approximately 5,200 scheduled hours of their time to be available for emergency response or standby.  Further, TVAC had a scheduled crew available to serve our community 24 hours a day, every day, for the whole year.  TVAC completed 1,301 patient care reports for emergency requests during the year, which is a record high for them. 1,051 patients were transported to area hospitals, with 63% of those responses were made to assist Tarrytown residents, 34% of the calls were for guests of Tarrytowners or those passing through the area, and 3% was to provide mutual aid assistance to neighboring villages. They served 800 patients over the age of 65, and the youngest patient was only 6 months old. One crew even got a mom to the hospital just in time for the birth of her baby girl! TVAC has been serving our community for 55 years, built on the dedication of our volunteers, and is still offering the opportunity for people to give back to the community as drivers, EMTs, or crew members. We are proud to have brought our Junior Corps back this year after a hiatus due to COVID.  Our volunteers include people from all walks of life including students, homemakers, nurses, social workers, retirees and office staff. All training is provided by the Ambulance Corps. If you are interested in volunteering, please visit the TVAC website website for more information at www.tarrytownems.org. TVAC also thanks the community for their generous contributions made during their recent fund drive mailing and throughout the year.  Every donation helps TVAC stay open and able to serve our community. The donations help keep the wheels rolling, and your kind words help keep the volunteers rolling.

Ice skating back this weekend!

skating in Tarrytown

While it is rare that warm weather helps skating, the recent warm weather helped melt the ice which improved skating conditions on the Tarrytown Lakes immensely, making it possible to resume skating here in Tarrytown!

At this time we are planning to reopen the lakes for skating for the following days and hours:

  • Sunday, February 13, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Monday and Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Check in with the Village website for further updates and more official information.

Litter around Tarrytown – please help!

The Village has received a number of complaints from residents and business owners about the increasing amount of litter that we are seeing around the Downtown, especially around Main Street and Broadway, and around other areas like Neperan Park, Pierson Park and Patriot’s Park.  We ask that everyone take the time to not throw your garbage in the street, park or in the parking lot.  If a garbage can is not handy, carry the garbage with you, or put it in your pocket, or put it in your car and hold it until you can get to a garbage can or recycling can.  Help keep Tarrytown looking beautiful!

Con Edison Gas Main Update

Here is the latest update on Con Edison gas main work around the Village.

  • The week of February 22nd – February 22, 23, 24 and possibly 25 – there will be very disruptive gas work to take place on Main Street at the intersection of Broadway, to finish up some main work and the installation and connection of a new gas service line.  If you can avoid Main Street at Broadway during the day for those 4 days, we strongly recommend you do so.
  • Hamilton - completed and backfilled on Hamilton from North Broadway to Croton Ave.
  • Croton and LeGrande work is continuing.
  • Work will continue up McKeel and Neperan
  • Work up on Neperan Avenue for another week to 10 days
  • Final pavement restoration of the gas main work done to date – Croton, LeGrande, Hamilton, McKeel – those areas – will take place in mid- to late- April.
  • Work is scheduled to begin WEST OF BROADWAY at the intersection of Central Avenue/Wildey Street and Valley Place starting on Tuesday, February 22nd. Work will take place on Wildey Street for approximately 2 months

Police Sergeant Promotions

Sergeants

Due to recent retirements and reorganization within the Tarrytown Police Department, the Mayor and Board of Trustees recently promoted three of our experienced police officers to the position of Sergeant.  We offer our congratulations to new Sergeants Toth, Schettino and Yearwood on their promotions and wish them the best of luck in their new positions.

We wish everyone a happy and enjoyable weekend – enjoy the Olympics, enjoy the Super Bowl, and don’t forget Valentine’s Day this Monday!
