Congrats to the Tarrytown Fire Department and Parade Chair Scott Weaver Sr. on the organization of the Firefighters Association of the State of New York dress parade through the streets of Tarrytown. With more than 40 fire departments from across the state it was a tremendous display.

Waning Summer

Eight weeks of summer camp came to a close today. Many thanks to Camp Director Katie Morales and all of our camp staffers for bringing fun and joy to campers all summer long. Our Recreation Department is looking ahead to fall programming. Be sure to fill out the survey from new Superintendent of Recreation, Dan Walczewski, linked below.

Dan Walczewski joined the Recreation Department on July 27.

Meet the New Superintendent of Recreation

"Hello Tarrytown! After spending the first 13 years of my career in Recreation in Scarsdale and Yorktown, I am very excited to have the opportunity to work for all of you in the Village of Tarrytown. Having grown up a few miles down Broadway in Hastings, I am still a Rivertowns guy at heart, so this is a homecoming of sorts for me. I want to thank everyone I have met over my first few weeks here for being so welcoming, and thank my predecessor, Joe Arduino, for leaving behind a great Department and being so helpful as I transition into my new role. My goal is to make sure that all of our residents continue to enjoy our beautiful facilities, and to offer programs and activities that you can have fun participating in and be proud of! Looking forward to meeting all of you and being a part of this wonderful community."

Survey: New Sports Program for Kids

The Recreation Department is exploring offering a sports program for children this Fall, but we need your feedback!  Please let us know your thoughts so that we can offer the right program for you!

Don't Forget to Vote!

The Primary Election for the 16th and 17th Congressional Districts is on Tuesday, August 23rd. Early Voting is already well under way. The District lines have changed this year, so the Village is now dvided between the 16th and the 17th districts where it had previously been entirely within the 17th district alone. For more information about how to find your Congressional District, your polling place, a list of candidates, or an early voting location can be found on our Village Clerk's page or through the County Board of Elections

Living with Bears

There have been a number of black bear sightings in the Rivertowns this summer, including in Tarrytown! The DEC has some helpful advice about what to do avoid human/bear conflict. Most importantly, residents can help by removing all attractive food sources.

If you see a bear:

"Don’t panic. Bears are more likely to be afraid of you than you are of them. Enjoy the privilege of seeing a magnificent wild animal, but don’t lose sight of the fact that bears are powerful animals that will defend themselves if they feel threatened. Never approach, surround or attempt to touch a bear. Always leave a clear escape route for a bear. If you feel threatened by a bear, back away slowly, but do not run. If the bear won’t leave, make loud noises—yell, clap, blow car horns or air horns, or drum on nearby objects."

Board of Trustees in Brief

Report From Board of Trustees Meeting 8.15.22

ICYMI, you can watch Village Board meetings online.

Due to technical difficulties, the recording and broadcast of the Board of Trustees meeting on Monday, August 15th, was interrupted mid-meeting and could not be resumed. Repairs of the broadcast system are still underway. The Board continued with the meeting to take care of basic items on the agenda, but continued the public hearing that was interrupted until the next meeting, and tabled the vote on support for the Environmental Bond Act until the next meeting as well. The Village anticipates the broadcast system will be repaired before the next meeting on September 6.
