Tarrytown Link 03.26.2021 - Village Budget, Mask Litter, Covid VAX Update and More!

We missed the last “Tarrytown Link” as we were preparing for the COVID-19 Vax clinic – sorry about that! On to regularly scheduled updates….

Village Budget

The Village 2021-2022 Tentative Budget was released in mid-March for Public Input. The budget touches all residents of the Village one way or another (sanitation, recreation, police, fire, etc.) and we welcome further comment concerning the budget at the April 5th Meeting. You can of course also submit comment in writing to the Village Administrator directly by emailing administrator@tarrytowngov.com

Mask Litter

Look, mask wearing is taken very seriously in our community. We receive very few complaints regarding non-mask wearing – we’re proud of that. However, there are some out there who are a little careless… We see mask litter of all types throughout the Village’s parks, parking lots and sidewalks. It’s gross – no one wants to pick up your used face mask. Its unsanitary, unsightly and you know the rest. If you’re in our parks – get it into a trash can. If you’re out for a walk, bring your mask home and dispose of it appropriately there. Do your part – don’t litter. Same goes for any other PPE (gloves, face shield, band-aids – you name it).

THE COVID 19 VACCINE IS HERECOVID Vaccination – General Updates

We have heard from many residents that getting the vaccine or an appointment for the COVID 19 vaccine can be a strenuous or impossible task. We were happy to help with out with a local clinic for 680 people, however there is more demand out there! Just this week persons age 50+ were permitted to get the vaccine (see full eligibility here). Eligibility seems to change every week to two weeks to keep your eyes peeled. For you data nuts out there, check out the COVID-19 Vaccine Tracker to see how the rollout is progressing.

To register for a vaccine at a NYS Run site, click here. There are also numerous sites local to Tarrytown where you may be able to get a vaccine

Also, NYS Announced the “NYS Citizen Public Health Leader” Program yesterday.

“To continue the fight against COVID and prepare for the next public health emergency, the State announced the launch of a free, online Citizen Public Health Training course for New Yorkers. This innovative course, delivered by the New York State Department of Health in partnership with Cornell University and supported by the State University of New York, will prepare and equip New Yorkers to become NYS Citizen Public Health Leaders and build an informed network of community health leaders across the state. Enroll today.”

Backflow Prevention Devices

Did you know your home may need or already have a backflow prevention device? Most new homes that are built, especially ones with sprinkler systems, require a backflow prevention device installed. These devices are used to protect potable water supplies from contamination or pollution due to backflow. These devices must be tested annually (see a list of certified testers here). Be on the look out for a letter from our building department. If you have any questions about these devices or if you are curious if your home may need one, call our building department at 631-3668.
