Snow update from the Village of Tarrytown
Storm warning and forecast - Friday through Saturday, January 28 through 29, 2022
As we are sure everyone is aware, we are all watching the storm forecasts for the Nor'easter that is due to hit our area Friday night through Saturday night. The Village staff are preparing and will make a determination on whether to declare a snow emergency on Friday or not. When we make that determination, we will get the notification out by 5 p.m. on Friday.
Please note the following:
- 10" to 15” of snow is likely across the region with strong winds across Long Island and S.E. CT Friday night into Saturday evening. Dangerous travel and blizzard conditions possible.
- 5" to 10” of snow and strong winds is likely FOR TARRYTOWN and across NYC, NE NJ, SW CT and much of Lower Hudson Valley Friday Night into Saturday afternoon. Difficult travel and blowing snow possible.
- Minor to locally moderate coastal impacts are possible for the vulnerable twin forks, north shore of LI and north shore of barrier island shoreline communities for the Saturday AM/PM and Sunday AM high tides . Minor flooding may become more widespread Sun AM high tides
- Confidence is increasing on forecast snowfall, but there is still uncertainty on the western extent and/or duration of moderate and heavy snow banding late Friday Night into Saturday. This will be refined over the next 36 hrs.
- Please plan and prepare accordingly.
- If you need any supplies, or if you need staffing for emergency or health care, start preparing now.
- Travel could be difficult to impossible on Saturday during the heaviest part of the storm.
- If you need vehicles gassed up, have it done tonight or on Friday.
- If you need any additional materials like salt or calcium chloride, or gas for your snow blower, get it tonight or tomorrow.
- We ask and recommend that everyone who has a driveway park in your driveway and off the street, to allow the snow plows to do their job more effectively.
- If we declare a snow emergency, parking will be prohibited in certain areas, which are posted as snow emergency streets or Zones. They are listed in the Village Code Chapter 291-89, Schedule XXIV, and are further listed below:
Chapter 291-89:

Response and Clean-up – Rules for Residents and Businesses - Chapter 259, Streets and Sidewalks
- Sidewalks, driveways and access areas much be cleared of snow and ice within 18 hours of the end of the storm.
- Do not shovel or plow snow and ice into the street - it is against the law to do so. Instead, shovel it to lawns or put on the sidewalk at the curb so as not to obstruct parking.
- Where snow has melted and formed into ice, the ice must be removed within two hours. Since the temperatures are forecast to be in the low side, as low as 10-degrees, salt will not work as effectively as other ice-melt chemicals like calcium chloride
- Sidewalk café operators should bring in their tables and chairs Friday night so that the snow cleanup efforts can take place. Tables, chairs and barriers may be put back out after the storm has ended and the snow and ice have been cleared
Be prepared and stay safe. We will send out a further update on Friday.
